Vast Improvement Project

Hi there. I'm the creator/lead designer of the VIP which centers around a hardcore-veteran/elite experience and aims to make casual the new hard mode.

Embers of Twilight is a complete Class Overhaul. VIP is itself a collection of mods which work together in order to essentially change the entire game from the ground up.

Here is some much requested information. Please forgive me as I've been very hard at work on the "Archetypes" MOD, which is merely a PIECE of Embers. So, without further ado, here is what I am going to do.

1) Rewrite the classes. Every class. Each class will fit into a subclass. Subclasses will have perks.
2) Custom Charts for each Archetypes. Varying health, MP, and damage you are able to do depending on your type.
3) Gender differences.
4) a HUGE amount of random weapons. not all items will have requirements, but many of them do.

and

5) this is strongly speculative at this moment, but Monster Classes (which will have weaknesses and such) AND Player Race. This will require a new UI to function. Also, possibly I would like to be able to sort through each class by Archetype in the menu/s.

Further information to be forthcoming.

So far, about a 1/4 of this is already implemented, working, and/or proven to be possible without changing the game's hard code. All I require is time and a few team members.

I am interested in helping you with infomation and planning.

I must say that currently there is not much deep info on the full extent of your proposed vision which would greatly help anyone who desires to help you with these mods.

I should also mention that I have no experience in Guts or direct modding since I have spent the last 2 years helping modders closely on the sidelines and keeping track of mod compatibility and class comparisons.
At this point after playing Torchlight 2 for 3 years original and modded... ignorant of mods and now wise with compatibility... the one thing I value the most-

-is being able to have "support" from the author of any mod.

I think the only advice I can give is that you don't burn yourself out. ^_^

Ey @Etherhead as mentioned on discord ive subscribed to your Embers of Twilight mod and will start playtesting.

Like @steffire3 i'd also love more details and, if you really want to recruit help, those details are essential so ppl can decide whether they wanna get on your wagon ;)

But even without those details yet, my motive for downloading is to learn more about what you've started because I think it produces some very interesting possibilities modding-wise!  I have precious little time to go into another full-mod development project, so whatever I learn i'm just going to offer back to you hoping it helps you polish this into something really great (like i sense it could be).

In line with "not having enough time for modding", we try to foster collaboration - the idea being that modders working together might produce something better (or maybe just faster) than they could if they were just working alone.  But we do not force anyone to collaborate if they don't want to ;)

So please also take a look at other mod ideas whose owners have left them here for others to champion.  May i point out @gytfunke 's Classless Character mod concept for example, the theme of which seems to be related to your VIP concept.  Gyt has announced that anyone is welcome to use parts (or all) of his project as long as he is credited for the origin-work.  This then, in a way, allows that mod to live on. ;)

Or if you see anyone else's work which you think synergizes well with your own, feel free to ask about possible ways of working together.

Okay so i'll be back with playtest feedback as often as i can.  This is also kind of my Welcome to you into these forums.  Great to have you here!

Hey @Etherhead im sorry to report i cannot get the game to start with EoT loaded. I've removed all other mods but it only gets up to the splash graphic for me, then it kicks out.

Yes, I had a serious error where I overwrote the mod and uploaded the mistake. It should have been working since about an hour after the mistake, due to some help from my girlfriend re-uploading it. If that's not the case, I'll find out asap. It should be working now at any rate.

Edit: Make sure you're using version 40

Everyone, if anyone is interested. I've opened up a ShareFile account. I do occasionally blow money on useless stuff, but this seems quite useful. It's kind of like Drop Box afaik. https://www.sharefile.com/ and if you open up an account, I can add you to the group and sharing files is a snap.

Here's what I'm looking at so far.

15 classes, Melee, Other, and Ranged.
This itself is not exactly ideal. I'm open to ideas, but here's a picture of my best attempt.
FYI, the file structure for a hypothetical mod would have 72 files contained in about 13 folders.

at some point we should probably settle on "dev-work management style" - it'll get unamanageable communicating over so many platforms :D
